Nebraska Extension

Training for the Panhandle Master Gardeners will be held on Feb. 23, March 2, and March 9. Each day will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Panhandle Research, Extension & Education Center in Scottsbluff. 

The days will include area specialists discussing a variety of topics on local plants, insects, and weeds. Cost is $25 for returning master gardeners and $250 for new master gardeners. New master gardeners will have additional online courses to be completed. Lunch will not be provided. 

Participants are asked to register with Stacy Brown at 308-632-1480 by Thursday, Feb. 19.

Feb. 23 

• 9 a.m. – Welcome and Introduction – Terri James, Extension Educator (Zoom)

• 9:30 a.m. – Water Management for Lawn and Garden – Gary Stone, Extension Educator

• 11 a.m. – Pesticide Safety for Home and Garden – John Thomas, Extension Educator

• Noon – Lunch on your own

• 1 p.m. – Tree Care and Management – Sarah Browning, UNL District Forester (Virtual)

March 2 

• 9 a.m. – Plant Selection for Western Nebraska – Janis Imel, Peaceful Prairie

• 10 a.m. – Planter Container Design and Selection – Peaceful Prairie

• 11 a.m. – Photos and Questions for Diagnosis – Gary Stone, Extension Educator

• Noon – Lunch on your own

• 1 p.m. – Pollinators and Beneficial Insects – David Lott, Extension Educator

March 9 

• 9 a.m. – Discuss Volunteer Hour Opportunities – Rob Eirich, Engagement Zone Coordinator, David Lott, Extension Educator, Terri James, Extension Educator

• 10 a.m. – Vegetable Garden Insects and Their Control – Dr. Pin-Chu Lai, Extension Specialist

• Noon – Lunch on your own

• 1 p.m. – Weed ID and Management – Dr. Nevin Lawrence, Extension Specialist
