Hello! I received this as a tiny little cactus, maybe 8 years ago, as a gift when my dear guinea pig passed. A little of his ashes are in this plant. It just keeps getting bigger and I don’t know what it is supposed to look like. He is very beautiful, but seems wrong somehow. How is this guy supposed to look? He was tied to some stakes, but is so top heavy, I do not know what is right. Thank you so much!

  1. Is this the position he’s always in? Unless you moved him for the photo, I think it’s fair to say he’s reaching for the window because he wants more light.

More light for sure, a bit less water also. Regular slight over-watering won’t hurt haworthia or gasteria but it does tend to enable noodly growth that most people find aesthetically unappealing. Water constraint may reduce the tendency to go zooming all over.

He’s burned out wants a promotion and the credit he deserves

Put him up on that table next to the window. He’s desperately looking for the light.

That looks like several year’s growth. And some etiolation thrown in as well. You could either live with it or behead it and also cut several stem pieces and grow them individually. That will take a hear or more to look good again. And yes it needs more light.

  6. He wants to go outside and play in the sunshine.

side note: it appears to be a succulent, not a cactus.
