The gardening market in Germany shrank by 0.6 per cent in 2025 compared to the previous year, reaching a total volume of EUR 19.723 bn. The reason for this is that the largest product group, live plants, has declined; with sales falling by 2.0 per cent to EUR 10.090 bn. Growth came only from the other two segments: garden hardware, which rose by 0.7 per cent to EUR 7.273 bn, and biological and chemical supplies, which rose by 1.2 per cent to EUR 2.360 bn.
These figures were announced by industry analyst Klaus Peter Teipel at a press event held by the German Garden Manufacturers Association (IVG). In his presentation, he also pointed out that the trend is moving away from traditional sales channels towards food retailers and, above all, discounters.
