The tremendous feeling of planting a tree is unparalleled

The Minister of Agriculture, Government of Niger planted a tree at our research campus in Hyderabad, India – and I had the privilege to plant trees at our ICRISAT research campuses here in India, as well as Niger and Mali, West Africa. I added the rubber plantation trials still in place at the Singapore Botanic Garden – which led to the multi-trillion rubber industry in SE Asia.

Hemingway supposedly said:

“…in order for one to be a man, a guy had to do four things: 1.) Plant a tree 2.) Fight a bull 3.) Have a son 4.) Write a book.”

Attributed to Hemingway, but actually a Chinese proverb:

““The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is now.”
