TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. — Multiple people escaped a fire at Ulster Gardens Apartments on Sunday with the aid of firefighters, Fire Chief Mathew Molinaro said in a press release.

Two residents were treated and released at the scene by Empress EMS, the release said.

Ulster Hose No. 5 was dispatched at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, for a stove fire that had activated the alarm system at the Ulster Gardens Court complex, according to the press release.

Firefighters found a working fire in an apartment “with the stove, cabinets, and other debris burning, smoke began coming from windows and eves of the building,” Molinaro said. Responders stretched a handline to the fire and secured a water source as a ladder truck and ground ladders searched, evacuated, and ventilated the scene, he said.

No firefighters were injured, the department said.

Assistance at the scene was provided by the Glasco Fire Department FAST team, along with the Hurley and Ulster fire departments, town of Ulster police, Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp, the Ulster building inspector, and Empress EMS, with standby mutual aid provided by the Centerville-Cedar Grove Fire Department.
