The company has seen rapid UK growth in recent years – and the new contract with J4 has played a crucial role in shaping a new, cost‑saving operational partnership.

MH Star first partnered with Junction 4 Pallets in 2024 after staff at the Doncaster operation recommended the nationwide pallet provider to colleagues at the Bury St Edmunds warehouse. Their positive experiences with Junction 4 Pallets built on reliability and service consistency prompted Bury St Edmunds Warehouse Manager Jay West to explore the collaboration further.

Jay explains: “I switched to J4 because the company I was using before wasn’t reliable enough when supplying second‑hand pallets. The quality wasn’t great, the price wasn’t great, and so a colleague in Doncaster recommended J4. Even though I had other suppliers who could match the price, the service levels were not the same quality.”

The pallet solution MH Star needed was far from straightforward. Their automated warehouse required a bespoke three‑legged pallet that could integrate seamlessly with a robotic lifting profile – something few suppliers were able or willing to develop.

Jay recalls: “We looked at all kinds of options, but no one else came back with the same enthusiasm to get it right like J4 did.”

Junction 4 Pallets ultimately delivered a custom pallet design that met MH Star’s automated warehouse requirements. West says the dedication of the J4 team, particularly Business Development Manager Gemma Greaves, who led the project, was instrumental in avoiding delays.

“J4 saved us both time and money due to their reliability and quality. The bespoke pallet has been a huge success. Without their support, we would have faced weeks of delays with our automation project. The commitment from Gemma and the rest of the team has been outstanding.”

With the new pallet solution in place, MH Star is planning further operational growth across the UK, including at its Doncaster site.

Gemma Greaves says the project reflects J4’s growing capability to support complex logistics operations: “It was incredibly rewarding to develop a bespoke solution with Jay and the MH Star team. I’m really looking forward to seeing how their operation develops.”

J4’s Head of Business Development, Guy Bayley, agrees: “MH Star shows the range of bespoke services we offer. It’s not just about the product anymore, it’s about delivery and the services that go with it. We work consultatively, produce prototypes, and make sure the solution truly solves the customer’s problem.”
