For Swedish couple Sakura Russo-Larsson (formerly Heffron) and Mattias Russo-Larsson, choosing Stockholm as their wedding destination was instinctive. “It was the natural choice,” Russo-Larsson says of why the US-based couple returned to the Swedish capital. “It’s a place that holds endless inspiration for us both. It’s where we spend our summers, where Mattias’ father’s side of the family is from, and where he proposed.”
With the city decided, the venue revealed itself almost instantly. When the couple arrived at Rosendals Trädgård, a lush garden tucked away on the central Stockholm island of Djurgården, there was only one thought: this is the venue.
The proposal itself happened two years prior, out in the Swedish archipelago. “Mattias proposed on Ingarö, out on his family’s boat – a place deeply tied to his Swedish roots and most cherished part of Sweden,” the bride notes. “We were set to leave for Paris the next morning, a trip I thought was just a spontaneous getaway, completely unaware he had something much bigger planned.”
Whilst Heffron, a model and interior architect/designer, was packing, Russo-Larsson, co-founder of film company Coming of Age, was preparing, loading the boats with celebratory drinks, and, of course, the ring. “We set off for an afternoon of island hopping,” she says. “About 45 minutes out, we spotted a small island and decided to dock.” Whilst Heffron was anchoring the boat, her back turned to her then-boyfriend, Russo-Larsson got down on one knee. “It was perfect,” she said, “Adventurous, tender, and completly us.”
