Following up from my post yesterday about finding Petco orchid, I deflasked them this evening, and they’re now settled into their new home inside of a closet. I was surprised to find that a lot of them seemed to be fused together, which I guess is perhaps a weird trait from tissue culture. I tried to untangle the roots, but it seemed like they were more than just tangled.
I sterilized a container with alcohol and then gently removed the agar in a distilled water bath. Then planted them in a mix of sphagnum and orchiata bark that I boiled for about 20 minutes before cooling.
I got these seedling trays on Amazon: https://a.co/d/046lsIuY. Chose them because they’re clear and because of the humidity vent to slowly acclimate them. I’m using one of these grow lights: https://a.co/d/06uis886. It’s on the lowest setting and on a 12-hour timer.
The potting media seems a little bit too soggy, so I’m going to wring it out a bit if it seems waterlogged over the next few days. Will keep an eye on it.
Would love any feedback, and I’ll continue to post updates as they progress, for better or for worse.
