A garden centre is celebrating 25 years of providing support to the community.

Haskins Garden Centre Roundstone, acquired in 2001 and located in Angmering, West Sussex, has spent the last quarter-century supporting charities and good causes through fundraising, donations and practical help.

The centre has supported charities including Sussex Air Ambulance, Turning Tides and Wadars Animal Rescue, as well as delivering materials and resources for community projects.

One of its current charity partners is Momentum Children’s Charity, which supports families with children diagnosed with cancer and other life-challenging illnesses throughout Sussex.

Nick Joad, general manager of Haskins Roundstone, said: “I am so proud to be celebrating 25 years of our Sussex centre with my fantastic team.

“The local community and our customers are at the heart of everything we do; that’s something that will never change.

“Over 25 years, we have had the privilege of supporting so many wonderful initiatives that have had an enormous impact on the Sussex area, and that brings us great pleasure.”

The centre has donated garden products, Christmas trees and other items to community schemes, and helped build a sensory garden at Chestnut Tree House Hospice.

Haskins also regularly donates planting supplies to the Angmering in Bloom association.

Employment at the site has grown by 180 per cent since 2001, and more than ten staff members have been with the centre for over 20 years.

Sue Ross, a long-standing employee, recently celebrated 40 years at the site.

Mr Joad said: “Many of our staff, including Sue, fondly recount how they’ve seen customers that first visited Haskins as children grow up over the years.

“It’s been a joy to see how these children have become parents visiting Haskins with children of their own.

“Watching our customers grow is one of the great privileges that come with working within a close-knit community, and I feel overjoyed and honoured that Haskins is such a special destination to many.”

The centre continued trading during the Covid-19 pandemic, and distributed gifts and treats to patients at Worthing Hospital and other community groups.

Haskins Roundstone has been named the South-East’s Best Garden Centre of the Year three times by the Garden Centre Association.
