There is a tree/giant weed in my neighbor’s yard and it’s very close to my house and property line. It looks like it’s dying and could be a major risk if heavy winds or snow arrives. I’ve included pictures and I am seeking any advice or recommendations.

Document it (not on Reddit). Ask r/treelaw (on Reddit). Bring your neighbor a bottle of wine or homemade cookies, politely explain your concerns, hand them a polite detailed explanation of your concerns, mail a copy to yourself and don’t open it. Call your home insurer and ask what to do and if they would like to contact your neighbors insurer. Check local regulations. Etc

When you spoke to the neighbor about your concerns, what did they say?

Tree is clearly a hazard and should be condemned

Talking to the neighbor is always a good first step. If the neighbor doesn’t seem to care, THEN go ahead and get a Certified Arborist to perform a Tree Risk Assessment. But as others have said, having them over for coffee and cookies may solve the problem with less drama.
