Youngsters got hands-on with history and horticulture during a school trip with a difference.

Reception year pupil from Hurstpierpoint College visited the Gardening Museum at South Downs Nurseries in Hassocks for a day of learning and exploration.

They were given a special tour of the museum by Clive Gravett of the Budding Foundation and volunteer Tony Clement, before enjoying a talk about plant growth from the nursery’s plant buyer and horticultural expert, Hazel Still.

Each child planted their own container to take back to school and care for as it grows.

Before they left, there was the opportunity for the youngsters to order their own hot chocolates in the coffee shop before putting their plants through the till; a fun way to practice confidence and real-world skills.
