In an afternoon matinee at the Memorial Gardens on Sunday, February 8th, the Soo Greyhounds delivered a strong all-around performance, defeating the Windsor Spitfires 5–2 in a key Western Conference matchup. Entering the contest, the Greyhounds sat fifth in the conference at 30-16-1-3, while Windsor arrived in third place with a 33-11-5-2 record.
The Soo set the tone early in the opening period. At 6:53, Jeremy Martin opened the scoring with his 21st goal of the season, finishing a play set up by Brady Martin, skating in his first game back since the 2026 World Junior Championships after an upper-body injury, and Callum Croskery. The Greyhounds doubled their lead late in the frame while shorthanded, as Lukas Fischer buried his sixth of the season at 18:09, assisted by Christopher Brown and Brady Smith, giving the Soo a 2–0 advantage after 20 minutes.
The momentum continued into the second period when Carson Andrew made it 3–0 at the 10:00 mark, scoring his fourth of the campaign with assists from Jordan Charron and Charlie Ashcroft. Windsor answered back less than three minutes later, as Cole Davis cut into the lead at 12:54 with his 16th of the season, assisted by Alex Pharand and Caden Harvey. The Spitfires pulled within one at 16:55, with Ethan Garden scoring his 12th of the year off feeds from Ethan Belchetz and Anthony Cristoforo, tightening the game at 3–2 heading into the third.
In the final period, the Greyhounds regained control. Travis Hayes restored the two-goal cushion at 14:51, scoring his 12th of the season with an assist from Spencer Evans. Marco Mignosa sealed the win late, firing home an empty-net goal at 18:23 for his 21st of the season, assisted by goaltender Carter George.
George was solid in net for the Soo, stopping 36 of 38 shots to earn the victory. Windsor’s Joey Costanzo made 18 saves on 22 shots in the loss.
With the win, the Greyhounds will look to build momentum as they return to OHL regular season action with a midweek showdown against their Highway 17 rivals, the Sudbury Wolves, on Wednesday, February 11th. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. at the Memorial Gardens.
