Hi there! I’ve had this fiddle for about six years, it’s grown a lot!! It’s still in its original container and I’ve never pruned. It’s almost to the ceiling and starting to lean. Would you repot and prune? If so where would you prune? It’s very happy and throws new leaves regularly.

Yea, I’d aim to both repot and prune it this spring. It’d be fine to do now, but if you wait until spring, you can save yourself a mess by doing it outside!

You will most likely end up with several new branches near the cut point, so prune where you want new branches. If this were my tree, I’d prune it back so that it’s just a few inches taller than your window sill. That way all your new growth will be in the perfect spot to get as much light from the window as possible.

Then I’d pull the plant out of the pot and prune any roots that are circling around the pot as well as any that are forming a mat of solid roots on the bottom. Then I’d remove all/most of the old soil. Then replant it into a slightly larger pot with a drainage hole. Honestly, don’t use a pot inside of a pot (that’s fine for smaller plants) and don’t use one with a built in drainage tray. Use a very well draining mix. I like to use regular potting soil with a TON of extra perlite in it. I also usually add a lot gritty things like lava rock, pumice, etc as well as fine orchid bark.
