I usually avoid moon cactuses bc I know they are just doomed to die but this was the first time I saw ones that are this color and it reminded me of the v expensive variegated cactuses (a friend got one awhile back). So I figured I’d just verify that these won’t live without intervention.

  1. Incorrect. They’re grafted to hylocereus, which have chlorophyll and can photosynthesize for both plants.

May I ask why they die? Isn’t the grafting successful?

I have two – a red and a yellow grafted one – that I have had for several years. They are doing fine in my south to southwest facing windowsill.

So if the grafted part has babies, little ones on the sides, and one falls off, I won’t be able to root it?

Honestly both of those gymnos can live without the rootstock. Will be a pain to root them but it would work.

That second one is fine, could live ungrafted without issue. The first one might be fine ungrafted but I can’t imagine it’d be easy. Most of its chlorophyll is on the bottom part so you’d have to get funky with the lighting and even then idk if itd work
