I have some Romain lettuce that I bought from the grocery store and put in water after I made my salads haha. It has grown significantly over the last week or so (it started with teeny tiny leaves) and I’m wondering if now is the time to put it in soil or what the next best step would be. I know it’s got a pretty narrow top so just wondering what I can do to help it keep growing! Thanks so much!

  1. I’d just eat the rest of the greens on this. Lettuce is an annual plant and is easy to grow from seed instead, and I don’t think this plant will ever recover fully. I’d imagine it will bolt quickly if it survives the transplant.

There is no “too soon” to put it in soil (but the soil would have to be sufficiently moist until it has a chance to develop some roots)…

And it certainly can’t keep growing forever without nutrients (just in water)

I think you are literally holding on till the bitter end

  4. I do the same thing…grow them in moist soil.

But eventually it will start to bolt… Which means turns to flower… It then starts to get bitter… It then goes to seed.
