Welcome back to episode two of our farmhouse renovation 🤍
In this video, we’re easing into January at the farmhouse and starting to tackle jobs we’ve never done before, both outside and in.
We begin with some winter garden jobs, including cutting back and pruning the wisteria and planting bulbs under the trees ready for spring 🌷 Inside the house, we officially get started with the renovation work before heading off to a very exciting bathroom design meeting. I’m sharing some sneak peeks and early plans for what will eventually become one of the most special rooms in the house.
Thank you so much for being here 🤍 If you enjoyed this episode, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and join us for the rest of the farmhouse journey.

Where can I find the vanilla perfume please ❤
You should leave the wisteria as you have birds nest 😱
You need the front door back! Wisteria is a bit of a bully plant tbh. You can hack it right back and it will still come back kicking! Depending on where the roots originate, you could probably cut all that back and train it up and over in a way that looks more deliberate and not overgrown and feral. It loves a bit of pruning too and you’ll get more flowers in the long run from it. I love my wisteria, but it grows like mad and I spend most summer cutting it back 😅
Sorry, but the wisteria is going to cause damage. It needs to be moved. It is quite hardy and will reestablish itself elsewhere. Don't train anything over windows – you will get lots of creepy crawlies when you open window. You could make a beautiful entrance.
I watched Homes under the Hammer the other morning and Martin said that wisteria can cause problems underground with its roots and a building
Your hair is goals❤
I've had a bespoke renovation company for years we have done everything from one off houses to basement installation to full renovations Inc bespoke fixtures and fittings along with extensive structure work. And although the vision of the entry of your home is lovely. The thing with wisteria, ivy and other climbers is the fact the cause other issues especially where DAMP and structural integrity are involved and a lot of gardeners or flower people as I call them do not understand this, they eat into the mortar and brick and stone then the moisture from the roof and branches tracks into the joints and eats away causing substantial water ingress . We've seen this on lots of old beautiful n buildings, stately homes, castles etc, so please do not let what looks nice, cause you problems down the line which can be VERY VERY costly. Beautiful home though. IF YOU GUYS NEED ANY ADVICE ON ANYTHING YOU ARE DOING THERE I WILL OFFER FREE ADVICE AND HELP iF NEEDED, JUST MESSAGE ME AND we CAN ARRANGE A CALL Or VIDEO CALL INITIALLY. GOOD LUCK GUYS🤞🤞
Just love your channel and your voice and kindness is so delightful. Stunning home!
I love the idea of you getting a donkey!! But I believe they need another donkey to keep them company so you need two 😂
I had wisteria growing like that on my last home and Gemma you will love it so much! I used to open my windows and the breeze would scent my entire home. It is truly so beautiful! When it's in full bloom it's like a fairy garden. ❤
I just found your channel today. I watched the tour and reno episode 1. I will watch this video but thought you might be more likely to see my comment about episode 1 if I put it here. The property is spectacular and I love your designer. I would flip your family room and living room. I think you are in your kitchen a lot. Having the family room somewhat open to the kitchen is extremely useful especially, when the boys are so young. If at a future date, you want to flip back, you can. Looking forward to this journey with you.
Gemma please move the Wisteria it could compromise your brick on the front entrance and if the roots get too back it could compromise some of your foundation. You can transplant it to other areas where it will not be so invasive. Also if you remove it from the entrance it will allow so much light to come through. Please reconsider keeping it. I think you should also get a Gardener to look at it to make sure it’s not doing any damage to your home as you have said it’s coming through the roof which could have caused a leak and depending on how long it’s been leaking may have caused a mold issue. It’s better to be safe for not only your children but for the adults as well. Mold could cause damage to the respiratory system.
Wow Gemma-Louise. So proud of what you and Jamie are achieving. Just lovely for you. ❤
Great vlog Gemma. Love the house. So happy you have your bathrooms and ensuite sorted. Love seeing you on your quad bike. Jonah was so funny at the end on the camera. Gorgeous family. ❤❤❤❤
Hi Gemma, sat and watched. Hmmm! Think your going to have to put your back into this renovation, get your hands dirty, nails well they won't exist😅😅. Else your just playing at it , renovations aren't for the faint hearted. Look at your Jamie he's now starting to deal with the enormous reality of it all, he is becoming knacked already. He will really need your input and help (not just planting bulbs!). Come on young lady show that grit. One can't flit from one job to another. Choose the project and get it done. As advised before get the fabric so to speak of your property sorted first, damp issues do not disappear unless dealtbwith….also think on damp spores can ruin ones health.. The rest will follow. Yes know your excited for end project but you have a long long expensive way to go yet. As put before speak from years of experience with 3 renos and extentions.
Winter Aconite (the small yellow flowers under the tree) has godt to be one of my favorite easter flowers 🌼
I too agree with Jamie and viewers/gardeners who have suggested moving the Wisteria. At shot 11:04 you’re just wishing you could see the original entrance door on such a lovely house feature on what is now your back yard/side yard? Making it a functional door ultimately depends on how you wish to live in your home. Perhaps turning that area back into a functional entrance may be useful to access the side/back terrace (thinking small muddy feet 😊) without going through your sitting room (assumption). But you are planning other outdoor access, so ultimately, it all depends on how your family moves in and out of the house and uses indoor/outdoor spaces. Time will tell. You may reconsider (or not) your original plan for the reading nook once you move the wall closer to the formal sitting room. Fortunately with all the other remodeling planned there is no rush to decide if you wish to change anything at all (including your cherished Wisteria)! Can’t wait to see!
That doorway is just too gorgeous to hide Gemma, the wisteria will still be able to stay, I think enjoy this year but I have to say Jamie is right, what an entrance, if it was me I would never want it hidden away, it’s very architectural, loving seeing what emerges as spring enters
I had a wisteria growing up the front of my house right the way across the front for 20 plus years we trimmed it right back every year and it grew back beautifully we even used to have people stop outside our house to take photos of it when it was in bloom didn’t damage the house at all only enhanced it . We have moved now but the people that bought our house said as soon as they saw the wisteria they new they had to come and view the house 😊
Save the wisteria!!!! at least if you let it bloom in the summer see if you can propagate any of it and try seeing if you couldn’t get it started in that area and Jamie can both agree on. I have dreamed of home covered in Wisteria and Pathos and amaranthus… and an entire hedge of hydrangeas
A literal mystical magical garden home
What will you paint the plaster with to keep it breathable?
No honestly you should take the wisteria 9:04
You have to re-instate the front door!
cant stand the use of marble in a house. Its not a renewable material and its not sustainable for anything, especially a kitchen or bathroom where it will inevitably be stained.
Reinstate the front door then you will walk through to the boot room.
You can move the wisteria !
GREETINGS ! YOU HAVE BEAUTIFUL LONG HAIR ! LET IT GROW ! 👋😃 🕊
The Grinch impression was hilarious 😂
Did I miss the video where you showed what you're going to be doing renovation wise upstairs? I'd love to know the plans for that I'm sure you'll tell us when you have the time. This is going to be awesome to watch I'm from the US and I stumbled upon your channel and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. You and Jamie are a delightful couple and your children are adorable😊❤
Yeeees cut your hair !
Where are the roots of the wisteria? Can’t it be pruned right down to the base of the tree and then re-trained back over the arched door with the new growth? Wisteria grows RAPIDLY. I’m talking in one year our wisteria will scale a whole story of our house and into the attic. It is very invasive so grows so fast you don’t have to worry about ruining it! You wanna get rid of any longer wispy parts because they won’t have much flower. I know you mentioned about using those to train up the house but you’re better off cutting it all back to the main tree base so that shoots can grow that will be full of flower. And then you can train it exactly how you like without all the mess. Then you can reinstate the old front door (even just for show) AND have the wisteria. You’ll probably just have to wait a year or two for it to really shine
Heyyy my lovelies, so at 19 minutes in you're talking about the damp in your walls and now I'd like to tell you that coinkidinkally I watched a series of vids on tiktok a few days ago about how people back in the day heated their homes and got rid of damp more effectively and this was simply by opening the windows and letting the new air circulate regardless of how freezy it was outside. You would think that closed windows would keep the heat in but in fact the stoves couldn't fire up properly for whatever clever reasons that may be which was over my head, and the damp stayed damp as the moisture had nowhere to go so it couldn't dry up. I just noticed and also remembered that I haven't seen you open any of your windows yet so that may be something for you to consider. I hope this helps. Sending you so very much love 💌
Love your new house vlogs! Just remember to wear a professional dust mask girlie 🙏🏼, those particles linger and can do long term damage. Can't wait to see the progress! 💖
The vibes in this comment section kind of suck 😅 your new house is gorgeous and I can’t wait to see what you guys do with it!!! These videos are sooo calming and lovely
Careful, Costa is on the boycott list!
Gamma i have not seen you this happy yet. This house, this garden is unleashing such joy and happiness in you! 😍
I know it’s not great for content , but please just be a gardener who can help to show you and advise. Xx
Don’t plant bulbs in frost lovely or when one is coming or prune things. Wait till frost has gone xx
Does anyone know if Gemma sells her old clothes on any selling sites? I’m sure she hasn’t got the time to do this now bit was just wondering as love her style x
You can transplant/ move the wisteria to a better location that won’t compromise the house. You need to back and prune that wisteria a lot harder!,
I think some bird feeders are in order!
Gemma, please wear a mask during renovations – brick and cement dust are extremely damaging for the lungs!
You should get some bird feeders to hang from the tree branches. Just that it might attract rats with being such a big foresty garden if you put loads of seed on the floor. x
Wisteria grows very fast, so plant one that you can view from the house. Then you will have its full glory but on a pegola, not on the house. Plant one soon so it has a good grow on before you cut this one away from the house.
What about sewing a huge patch with wildflower seeds? Stunning to look at but just imagine that for your bouquet 😍
Before you put up the new renovations you and your husband should write little well wish messages for your new home or bible verses if your religious that relates to peace, protection and family on thw woiden support studs, subfloor or underneath hidden fixtures etc. You can write the date you all moved in, your kids ages and signatures and even their little hand prints since they're to young to write. You could also leave little tokens of love such as photos and time capsules such as coins from the year you moved in or newspaper clippings from that day. Imagine a family hundreds of years from now renovating and find all those precious meaningful trinkets and measages from the previous owners… your family. ❤
