David Nicklin, 36, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court charged with two offences of shoplifting.
Nicklin, previously of Ammanford, was alleged to have taken Stihl KM 131 Kombi Engine worth £569.99 from Charlie’s in Carmarthen on December 1.
He was then accused of returning to the store on December 7 and stealing a Combi HLKM Hedge Trimmer valued at £299.99.
The defendant, now of Tir Ysgol in Llanelli, pleaded guilty to both offences.

Nicklin was sentenced to a one-year community order and must complete 80 hours of unpaid work, a 120-day alcohol abstinence and monitoring requirement, and 25 days of rehabilitation activity.
He must pay full compensation for the value of the stolen goods, as well as £85 in costs.
