A restaurant worker died after “diving headfirst” into a deep fryer, with a harrowing call revealing the horror aftermath.

An emergency services dispatcher was left in shock after the terrifying death was reported to emergency services. The victim, who has not been named, stripped inside the kitchen of the Olive Garden restaurant last Friday afternoon. The man reportedly then plunged into a vat of hot oil, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Authorities have described the horrific incident as a “suicide attempt” as 911 recording in the moments after the horror come out.

In the emergency call, a local fire and emergency services worker can be heard stopping to take a long pause before he finishes explaining the emergency. Lycoming County Fire and EMS radio, from January 30, said: “A male victim went head-first into the … fryers,”

He took a long pause before adding: “I don’t have a lot of details … lot of people screaming, some kind of a burn victim.” Pennsylvania State Police confirmed the shocking details of this death, also categorising it as a suicide attempt.

Another emergency services audio recording from the fire department revealed the desperate scene. A dispatcher said: “I don’t have a lot of details – lot of people screaming – some kind of a burn victim.”

Colleagues of the man were also injured in attempts to get him out of the deep fryer, including another female employee who sustained some minor burns. The man was rushed to hospital but he was sadly later pronounced dead.

Police officer Lauren Lesher stated: “This incident was a suicide attempt, and out of respect for the individual and their family, we do not release information.” The restaurant was closed for several days after the horror death but it has since reopened.

This comes after a mum-of-two was found dead in a freezer at a supermarket after getting trapped. Helen Massiell Garay Sanchez was pulled dead from a freezer at a Dollar Tree in Miami, in December 2025.

Her body was located in the freezer in a restricted employee-only area of the supermarket. Officials said they believe that there was no foul play involved in the tragic incident. Authorities said it didn’t appear like she was “forced” into the freezer, despite being found with no clothes on.

Helen’s family are now embroiled in a new $50 million lawsuit, which accuses a manager of instructing a worker on duty “not to review the surveillance footage” and failing to take “reasonable action to locate or assist her” when she was missing. She was allegedly seen by workers walking into the store on the Saturday night before it closed.
