There is a subset of fans of the Boston Celtics who have long wanted Chicago Bulls big man Nikola Vucevic on their favorite ball club’s roster. And now, those fans have had their wish fulfilled, with the Montenegrin center having made his debut for Boston in their 98-96 homer win vs. the Miami Heat on Friday (Feb. 6) night.
After the former Bulls big man had put up 11 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, Vucevic took a moment to talk with the local media about his first game playing for the Celtics. Asked what he thought of how that first contest went for him, he replied, “I think, pretty good. Most importantly, glad we got the win.”
“I felt pretty comfortable out there,” he added. “I think as the game went on … the guys also felt more comfortable with them and were able to figure out certain things that they want us to run, so, I think, for the first game it was good.”
“Obviously, we can continue to build on it and figure things out and get a feel playing alongside each other out there on the court,” continued Vucevic. “But overall, I thought it went pretty well. And just like I said, most importantly, very happy we got the win.” As to how it felt playing in TD Garden with the crowd behind him, he said, “It was great.”
“Obviously, you know, we got down a lot, but as you know, in the third quarter, once we started making that run, it was really fun to get the crowd into it. Obviously, very loud, one of the loudest places in the NBA. I know, even from playing against the Celtics before, but it’s much nicer when the fans are behind you and supporting you. It was great. Boston fans really know sports, they really know basketball. I could really hear people cheer. It’s fun to hear my name getting cheered, and especially the ovation I got when I first got subbed in.”
“I really appreciate that. It means a lot as a player, to get the support from the fans, so I think they definitely helped us, even, get more momentum, and play even harder,” said Vooch.
