There are a few things in Nacogdoches that you can count on. One of those things is the plant sale that SFA Gardens puts on. There are always two of them – one in October and one in April. Well, the April sale – known as the Garden Gala Day Plant Sale – has now been announced online, so it’s “Facebook Official”.
Garden Gala Day Plant Sale Location and Time
The Garden Gala Day Plant Sale will be held at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center (PNPC) on Saturday, April 11th from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM. If you’re not familiar with where the PNPC is located, put this in your GPS: 2900 Raguet Street, Nacogdoches, TX 75965. That will put you right at the entrance.
Parking will be available at Janice A. Pattillo Early Childhood Research Center, just right up the street from the PNPC (If you’re worried about the walking distance, it’s not too bad – plus, they generally have a shuttle service from the sale back to your parked vehicle, if you would like to take advantage of that).
Other Important Plant Sale Details
The plants in the sale are listed as “Texas tough native plants”. These aren’t just your run-of-the-mill plants that you find in the store. There are all kinds of perennials, trees, edibles, shrubs, and more. An entire list of all the plants that will be sold during the Garden Gala Day can be found on the SFA Gardens website, and the list will be continually updated until March 27th, so you have lots of time to browse and decide what kind of plants might work best for you.
If you want to make sure you get the plants you want, you probably need to get to the PNPC early. Take my word for it, these plant sales are serious. The day of the sale, you can browse through the sales until just before it begins at 9:00. At that time, you have to be behind the line, and then when the SFA Gardens’ staff say so, it becomes a free-for-all as people run – no, seriously, RUN – to get their plants before anyone else. It’s truly like Black Friday, only shopping for plants.

The SFA Gardens are always sought after areas for photo ops. Once the leaves change for fall, they go to a whole new level, making photos even more breathtaking.
