This is at the entrance to the house and we just recently discovered it.

It's maybe 12-15 inches and wide. How should I get this out and is the bush done for?

Light it on fire or blow it up. There’s snow so don’t worry about any fire spreading.

If you can record and post it that would be awesome.

The hornets that were in it are gone and won’t come back, they will build a new nest in the spring.

You could just use a claw hammer to break it up so that the branches don’t need to be cut.

I usually keep cool shit like this, or pass it on to someone who might like it.

I’ve heard that leaving the nest intact (even if abandoned) will signal to wasps in spring that your yard is already occupied

Id just remove it. Discard. Your bush should be totally fine.

This looks like a bald head hornet nest. Has one in our tree. Was MASSIVE. Think a large medicine ball. The actual hornets are nightmare fuel. They have white markings instead of yellow. They serve no purpose but to hunt other hornets wasps, etc. also they are EXTREMELY proximity aggressive. Attack anything that’s nearby including you and me. Another terrible thing, their stingers are smooth, no barbs; they sting over and over and over. About an inch in length. Oh yeah, last thing, their faces look like skulls.

Be happy they’re gone if that’s what I think it is.

Take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

I would hit it with a pressure washer after removing what I could with a blade/saw. It can get real messy and purple with the old hive material inside
