These Autumn sage plants were thriving pre-freeze but are looking quite a bit worse for ware now. Should I be pruning these down or leaving them for a few more weeks to see how they recover? If it’s time to prune, do I take these right down to the roots or just trim some of the leaves?

Chop and drop to the ground. Cutting now or in a few weeks works fine.

I’d wait until March. If you prune you risk signaling it’s time for it to grow and then another late freeze killing it off again and native wildlife is probably using the dead foliage for shelter while it’s winter

I’m waiting a little longer on my perennials, just in case anyone (bees & such) are using the stalks as winter shelter and we have another freeze. Also leaves material for birds who will start nesting soon.
