(WPDE) — Brookgreen Gardens became a hub of excitement as fans of the hit television show “Survivor” gathered for the Survivor 50 Challenge Thursday.
The event, part of a nationwide scavenger hunt celebrating the show’s upcoming 50th season, has drawn participants from across the region, including Charlotte, Savannah and Atlanta.
Heather Aldret, a former contestant from Season 41 of “Survivor” and a former teacher at Waccamaw Elementary, returned to her roots in South Carolina to join the festivities.
“It was nice to come from Charleston, come back home to celebrate this with everybody here,” Aldret said. “There’s so many fans here and so many people are excited about 50.”
Lauren Joseph, VP of Marketing at Brookgreen Gardens, expressed her enthusiasm for the event.
“We were contacted about, 6 or 8 months ago by, this wonderful company that’s putting together this activation for ‘Survivor,’ the television show,” Joseph said. “This is their 50th season. And so they wanted to do something that was really immersive and interactive for the fans in each local area.”
The challenge involves a scavenger hunt where participants search for a “Survivor” idol at Brookgreen Gardens.

Upon finding it, they can take a photo and upload it to enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip to Los Angeles for the taping of the “Survivor” finale.
Joseph noted that the event aligns well with Brookgreen’s commitment to nature and discovery.
“It’s come to Brookgreen and discover all that you don’t know about Brookgreen Gardens,” she said.
With approximately 600 to 700 participants already visiting Brookgreen Gardens, the odds of winning the sweepstakes are favorable.
The event has not only brought excitement to the gardens but also introduced many visitors to the beauty and wonder of Brookgreen for the first time.
