Petunia Seed Starting Video – https://youtu.be/eVKH-ccVU-o?si=r_sdz8j-4BaH_7rz

Since it is the beginning of the year and most of the gardeners are starting seeds, I wanted to review the basic budget friendly seed starting supplies that I use for my small home garden. Plus, I am potting up my petunia seedlings.

  1. I have a pot that I’d planted Supertunias in last spring that I cut back after they died off at the end of the summer and they’re growing like mad now! I bought them at Homegrown and they were gorgeous up until late August. They were all dried up after I cut them back and I figured they were goners. Nope…they’re beautiful now even after our recent temps in the upper 20’s overnight. I haven’t covered them or done anything to them at all.

  2. This was a very informative video. Thank you so much for sharing. Hoping to get some kind of small set up that’s not ugly or takes over my house lol.

  3. Great points on seed starting mix. I would add that it is also important for soil sterility. Especially if you're doing it indoors and you want to dramatically reduce fungus gnats, etc.
My mix is 2 parts peat, 1 part perlite, and 1 part sand. Extremely inexpensive and long lasting when bought in bulk.

  4. Are the lights in your Amazon storefront the ones you have as well? I’ve only used the LED grow lights and have been intimidated by the shop lights … plus the LED are pricier and smaller! Thanks!!!

  5. Thank you for showing that the clear cell sections fit well in the 1020 trays! I use 20-20-20 diluted down in the house for seedlings. I just can't stand fungus gnats and the organic fertilizers seem to draw them. Sterilizing my mix with boiling water to moisten and the fertilizer usually cures fungus gnat problems for me. The triple 20 I use ( southern AG on amazon) has micronutrients. Once they go outside, I do organic and fish fertilizer.

  6. Awesome tips, my garden is definitely on a smaller scale so these are perfect for me. The petunias snagging the fungus gnats is hilarious! 😵😁

  7. This was an excellent video. I also garden on a small scale so your tips are very helpful.

  8. Thank you! I will definitely be doing the smaller trays next time! Trying a 72 cell with things germinating and growing at different rates has not been ideal

  9. I came back and re-watched this informative video. I’m going to give it a try. Shopped your Amazon storefront. 🙂 Thanks!

  10. Awesome video! One question. Right at the last you watered with the fertilizer, then the water. I believe you said one ince in each tray? Do you typically come back to find you have to pour off some water after an hour or so?

  11. I am looking for those containers with the moisture domes because I can't keep track of what is planted in those larger trays! So much easier to put under my 2 and 4 foot lights. I can only purchase one group of trays so my question is which do you recommend the 4 plants per tray or the smaller trays? Thank you so much for the wonderful videos you provide us! I learn so much from you!
