Me and my wife are buying a place in Italy that needs a bunch of work and I’m responsible for getting some ideas for the garden! It’s only a small garden and is on two levels (and the last photo is the best image I currently have that shows the garden area(s).

What would you do with this space? We won’t be there all the time as it’s a holiday home so it needs to be easy to maintain. The main purpose of the garden is to lounge, relax, read a book and enjoy the view! I’m thinking on the main level to have wooden decking maybe? With the focal point being a lounge area with outdoor seating and maybe some form of cover? And potentially on the top area just plant some flowers or small trees? it’s quite narrow up there so can’t really use it as a space to relax).

I also love the idea of some sort of water feature, whether it’s a small stream or little moat going around the lounge area – just think it would be cool to implement water into the garden given it’s a lake view, though I’m not sure if that’s even possible due to the small size of the garden?

I’ve never decorated anything, let alone designed a garden so any advice or creative ideas are more than welcome!!

That is literally a dream home

I would tidy the place up first. Clean it up. Then take a year to see how the sun hits, how water runs, what other neighbors do, and then start planning. What might work in your head for the spring might be a nightmare during the winter.
The view is enough for me, but then again, I dont have a house like that! Lol

    Beautiful property.

Too many questions, do you have a water source for the water feature? What are native plants in the region? How about an herb or veggie garden?

Seating area by the tree, enjoy natural shade. I’m a big fan of cooking outside and would keep things easy and rustic, a simple fire pit (assuming burning is permitted). An herb/veggie garden with a picnic area, maybe an oven/grill. With a million dollar view like that, full sun…so many possibilities!

With the obvious structural concerns, this is the kind of thing you pay a professional for. Not try your hand at DIY for the first time, especially if you want to integrate water.

Looks great, what lake is this if I might ask

As an American, jealous you can pull this off.

Does it require EU citizenship to pull this off?

step 1: Be grateful it’s terraced

    step 2: prosper

    * to be more productive – I would go fairly minimimalist and clean. Don’t want to distract from that view.
