TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – You can get those green thumbs back in shape and learn a few new skills at an upcoming conference.

Topeka Common Ground is behind the event. Board member Jennifer Gorton visited Eye on NE Kansas with the details.

Gorton said Topeka Common Ground is a volunteer effort to encourage and support community garden initiatives. They distribute free garden seeds and seedlings, offer mini-grants to help cover the costs of garden needs, and provide access to resources and educational programming.

Their upcoming conference is part of the educational efforts. Gorton said the information will benefit both new and experienced gardeners. Sessions will cover topics like starting seedlings, edible gardens, preserving and donating your harvest, and more.

Their featured speaker is from Seeds From Italy in Lawrence, who’ll focus on unique vegetables you can grow in Kansas.

The Garden Conference with Topeka Common Ground runs 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Washburn Tech Conference Center.

The cost is $25, which includes snacks. Register at TopekaCommonGround.org/2026-Conference.
