Howdy, does anyone know why the bark of this tree seems to be missing? Saw it on a walk the other day and I am curious if it’s naturally occurring.

    I would imagine it has sloughed off after being attacked by bark beetles of some sort.

    Edit: next time you go by walk up to the tree and see if there are fancy looking patterns on the cambium. Sometimes there are and sometimes it’s all on the bark that has fallen off.
