My mom wants me to plant tulips in front of her kitchen window and there is this little slit of dirt here, but I'm worried about messing with the structure with watering these tulips. I tried looking it up. It looks like shrubs and trees are a no go, but flowers were a maybe? Is this too close? Should I just plant the tulips somewhere else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’m not an expert but I have bulbs next to my house about that close and the person who owned it before me had them in the same spot and I haven’t seen any issues. Like I said I’m not an expert just my personal experience has had no issues.

In my non-professional opinion, yes, that’s fine. I wouldn’t plant a *tree* that close. But tulips should be fine at that distance, and your structure should be able to handle a normal amount of water outdoors.

Oh yeah, you’re good to load them up here. Their root systems won’t do anything to the foundation as they’re so small.

try it, see what happens. I imagine it would be fine.

  5. Yes. Tulips have kinda shallow root systems and they like drainage. They’ll be fine there without causing destruction. If you’re super worried you can plant them in pots.

If you’re planting under an overhang, make sure to water the bulbs during dry spells so they don’t shrivel up due to lack of moisture.

I really think that the hen needs to be included in the decision making here.

If the chicken will let you keep them there.

As a person who has watched tons of home inspector videos, the answer is NEVER, plant near your foundation. Over time, the water will cause damage to the foundation and could cause it to break.

Tulips or a $100k fix on a foundation? Keep the foundation! No water should come within 3 feet of a foundation, which is why gutters are so important.

Ask that chicken first. It looks like it’s her area.

that soil is screaming for some compost

Yes the heat from the foundation will keep bulbs warm during cold weather months

If worried, I get a cute player or two. ai have mine in pots – pretty – so that when done there is still color. I pair tulips with alyssum.

I’d plant more chickens, that one’s thriving

As a structural engineer and a tulip planter I would say yes.

Now that you are asking , I planted monstera near foundation like you. it’s a pot but I can see roots coming out from underneath. is it a problem ?

the house i have has a bunch of easter lillies that are extremely close together and to the foundation and they look incredible every year and we don’t have to do anything, they handle themselves (on a drip system of course) you could plant tons of tulips in there and they would be fine. i’m more worried about the chicken you have growing there? might compete for resources.

That looks like unhappy dirt. It looks weak in nutrients and clay-like. I wouldn’t plant anything in that.

I have tulips planted close like that between my house and driveway in crappy clay soil. everything has been fine for many many years.

Google Tulip Mania… I’d be careful if I were you because a lot of people lost their homes because of Tulips
