Let me preface this by saying I am very plant illiterate.

I am moving to a new place with lower ceiling and need to cut down two of my schefflera trunks. I'm just looking for advice on how best to do that. Thanks!

For posting: I water once a week and it gets medium sunlight.

Omg I don’t know how to cut it but I do know that plant is not getting nearly enough light.

Its etiolated, searching for light. Your best bet is to cut the top part and propogate it, in better light. Then cut the stem down, leaving about a foot and see if it’ll branch out with new growth. Dont water the roots until you see it pushing out new growth.

    They respond well to pruning.

I agree with Poof, just chop it down fairly short. Most likely you will end up with new growth near the cut point, so if you just chop off the top near the top it will just regrow near the same height. Given how it’s stretching for light, it will just hit the ceiling again soon. You should strongly consider pruning it back to about 18 inches or so…. and setting it right smack in the middle of your very BRIGHTEST window. This is NOT a shade loving plant.

Google “apical dominance”. The gist is that you can do a small cut on the dominant trunk(s) to promote growth at different places.

This video explains better than me: https://youtu.be/VxABMTPo0Tc

PS: I’ve never tried it, so good luck if you try!

    I would.

Cut all 3 at different heights. Try rooting the tops too.
