A new study by a garden furniture retailer has uncovered somewhat predictably that the cheapest per square metre of outdoor private space is to be found in the Western Isles.
White Stores have found that the most affordable gardens in Britain are in the Isles, where each square metre of outdoor space costs £135, a full £100 less than the next cheapest in the list, Argyll and Bute.
The study used the latest house price data from the Land Registry and private outdoor space data from Ordnance Survey.
Each local authority’s average house price as of data released last month was divided by its average private outdoor space in square metres to reveal the average cost per square metre.
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London, where the average property price is around £1.3 million, ranked last at £12,252 per square metre of garden.
