The top of this approx 7yr old nectarine tree started wilting and curling a few weeks ago but now seems to be obviously dying.

Do I just chop it off at the lower red line in image 3 and hope the side branches take over? A bit lower? Or replace the tree? It is infested with scale insects at this point and I lost the fruit to flies.
