That’s great they’ve been hurting for a while.

I saw a whole bunch last summer. I was in the mountains when they started metamorphizing. When I went down to the creek I’d always be able to see a handful following the river up and down stream.

I’m so jealous. I had record monarchs but no swallowtails this year (swallowtails and sulphurs are my favorite)

Look at all that beautiful food for them in the background!! Are those zinnias?

You have a hedge of zinnias. Your swallowtails are happy, and you should be too.

  6. Years ago, and I’m taking around 2005 or 04 when there was that mass migration of monarch butterflies to Mexico (I’m in La) I was driving home from high school and there are as so many they were hitting my windshield. I slowed my car down and tried to see where they were coming from. As I get to my house I’m seeing 100s more.

I go into my backyard and there they were, thousands flying in a line, going up over the neighbors fence back down and into my backyard, then back up over my fence into the other neighbors yard.

I went directly under them and had thousands of them flying around me, was the most surreal experience ever.
