Help ID this houseplant (gifted~1 year ago) – leaves fell off, want to save it

Hi! Can anyone help me identify this plant? I’ve had it for a little over a year and unfortunately I don’t have a great green thumb. 😅

It used to have a lot more leaves, but over time the leaves started falling off and now it’s looking pretty sparse and not too happy.

Before I try to figure out the best care (and post in a plant care subreddit), I want to make sure I know what it actually is.
