TWO RIVERS – The Two Rivers community garden program has been very popular this year with dozens of residents signing up to use a garden bed for the 2026 growing season, according to Ashley Hagerty from the Two Rivers Parks & Recreation Department.
As of Feb. 3, only two of the 115 garden beds were still available.
The Two Rivers Parks & Recreation Department opened applications for the community garden mid-January. The openings were advertised in a Facebook post on the “Two Rivers Parks and Recreation Dept.” page.
“Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out, our garden is a wonderful place to grow your own produce, enjoy the outdoors and connect with fellow gardening enthusiasts,” the post states.
Each plot in the garden is 3 feet by 20 feet and each gardener can claim up to three garden beds at $10 per plot.
The entire space is fenced in and there are water, tools, mulch and manure available for each gardener to use.
Gardeners must abide by a few restrictions such as not planting anything that spreads or is invasive and only organic substances.
The garden is behind the Holy Cross and Forest View cemeteries on Mishicot Road. It was started in 2013 by volunteers as a way to grow food for the Two Rivers Senior Center and the Two Rivers Ecumenical Pantry.
Hagerty said gardeners can still donate any extra produce they have for those non-profit organizations.
