A £7.9 million regeneration of Cleethorpes’ Pier Gardens will begin on 9 February following the award of the main construction contract to Maylim, a national landscape and civil engineering contractor.

The site will be closed to the public from 10 February for the full duration of the works, which are scheduled to run for around 15 months.

Temporary fencing will be installed around the gardens, access paths from Central Promenade, and part of the pavement on Alexandra Road. This will create a controlled site boundary and a vehicle access point opposite Dolphin Street to support deliveries and construction activity.

The project forms part of a wider £18.4 million government-funded investment programme in Cleethorpes that also includes redevelopment works at Sea Road and Market Place.

Maylim’s appointment follows a competitive tender process. The company specialises in large-scale public realm delivery, combining landscaping, paving, highways, and civil engineering works across urban regeneration schemes.

Tom Taylor, Project Lead from Maylim, said: “We are really pleased to have secured this project and make the space something for people to be proud of. When I first saw the plans, I could really see this was a project which was designed to bring the community together, and make them a beautiful space that people will want to spend time in. We’re looking forward to working with the community through local employment and businesses opportunities, along with a series of events to engage the whole community.”

Cllr Philip Jackson, Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “Landscaping changes over the years – just look at previous formal gardens in stately homes that were designed centuries ago. That’s essentially what Pier Gardens used to be when the railway first came to town. It’s time for us to change this and make them fit for the future, and I’m looking forward to seeing this project on the ground in the coming weeks.”

The start of construction marks the transition from planning to on-site delivery for one of the town’s key public realm upgrades, with contractors expected to be visible in and around the area from the first week of works.
