I came across this flower in an urban planter and it immediately caught my attention. It looks like some kind of iris, and after a bit of searching I think it might be Dietes iridioides (African iris).
I love the details — the white petals, the yellow/orange markings, and that soft lilac touch in the center 😍
Am I right about the ID?
Does anyone grow this at home? Is it really as hardy as people say?

those grow very well. you can collect the seed pods as they start to dry out and plant the seeds, they sprout and grow well
Yes, you identified correctly. We have a lot of these in our yard that were planted by the previous homeowners. We’ve been here for nearly 18 years. They are very tough plants.
Absolutely beautiful!
Lol “parking lot iris” here in norcal. Actually called fortnight lily around here. They are everywhere. Probably invasive here? Wouldn’t plant them myself.
Yeah they are super hardy. We have like 7 or 8 around our property and never maintain them. I have even dug a few up and moved to different spots with no issue.
Gorgeous 😍
Gorgeous pricey where I live tho.
I’ve enjoyed these in a few yards. They spread out but are controllable. Easier to maintain than mondo grass. Please avoid that one.
