The site, on the corner of Coopers Lane and Waterside, will become a new garden and plant centre and not a commercial garden centre as rumoured online in 2025.
The plan is to reinstate the gardens and to add a couple of greenhouses to the site, for the applicant’s business, Growing Crazy.
Reacting to the news, the applicant, Steven Monks, said: “It’s exciting news. We have still got a couple of things to work out, but it’s really exciting to get things moving.
“We are going to be a bit delayed because we have signed up for a couple of RHS shows in Malvern and Badminton, which are going to keep us very busy.
“The application is going to give us a bit more space for the business. We had quite a few people pop down for a chat last year, including residents and councillors, and we had a positive response.
“It was really nice to see that people took the time to see what we are about and what we are doing, rather than what was said on social media.”
Though not open to the public, Mr Monks hopes to open the gardens a few days of the year to let people look around.
Speaking previously, Mr Monks said: “It’s not going to be a garden centre, but I can see and understand the confusion.
“It’s going to be a gardens and plant centre, I’m not looking at opening a large commercial garden centre.
“The plan is to reinstate the gardens and to have a couple of greenhouses for my online business.
“It’s not going to be a retail-focused site but a place to expand my growing plant collection and go from there.
“We hope to be open a few days a year for people to come in and have a look around the gardens.
“Some people misunderstood the title of the planning application, which I can understand, but I was genuinely touched by the amount of local support, particularly from those who saw beyond the headline and took time to understand what I’m actually hoping to achieve.”
