Hi, an old coworker bought a monstera and gifted it to me upon leaving. I’ve never taken care of a monstera before and don’t know where to start. It looks big for its pot but I don’t know how I should be wrangling the leaves.

For context, he told me it was explicitly a hanging monstera.

It was hanging a lot more and tilted so I put a book to prop up the bottom leaves a bit for support.

Is there anyway to get it back in control, or how do I organize the leaves? Does it being a hanging monstera affect how I should be doing this?

Thanks!

Move it closer to light- less leggy! If possible…! 🙂

Monsteras are not a hanging plant, they grow up trees naturally. You will need to look at getting a support for it there are alot of options out there depending on your time and budget. Moss poles are generally thought to be the best but require alot of upkeep, coir poles are pretty common and readily available, but you can also just use a plank of wood or garden stake. You will then want to attach the plant to your support by tieing it on the stem between the leaves, do not tie the leaves themselves on as they need to be able to move around

  3. There is no such thing as ”hanging” monstera. They climb up eg a tree in nature, to reach more light. Basically, only thing holding them down is gravity.
