GARDEN CITY, Ala. – The Town of Garden City has been awarded $520,000 in federal funding to support improvements to its water system.
The funding, according to U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Alabama, was awarded through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Community Grants program. The grant is intended to strengthen local water infrastructure and help ensure access to safe, reliable water service. Aderholt said the investment will help Garden City modernize its water system and support long-term growth in the area. The project does not require any matching funds from the Town, according to Garden City Town Clerk Amy Black. If additional funding were needed, it would come from the Town’s utility system rather than the general fund. Black said the grant will be used to expand Garden City’s water system into parts of Blount County, allowing new customers in that area to receive a more adequate water supply. The project is an expansion of the system and is not intended to address existing service issues. Current Garden City water customers should not expect any changes as a result of the project. Black said residents already connected to the system will not experience service interruptions, and the expansion will not affect water rates now or in the future. No timeline has been established for when construction will begin, and Town officials said additional details will be released once the project schedule is finalized. “Clean, dependable water is essential for every community, and this investment will help Garden City make needed improvements to its water system,” said Aderholt. “I am proud to support funding that strengthens critical infrastructure in north Alabama and helps ensure residents have access to safe water now and into the future. This grant is good news for Garden City and the surrounding area. It will help the town modernize its water system and better serve local families and businesses.”
