Tillicoultry Wildlife Group (TWiG) held its first event at the Ben Cleuch Centre, where more than 30 people, aged between two and 80, gathered to build nest boxes for birds including blue tits, great tits, hedge sparrows, and nuthatches.
Some attendees took the boxes home for their own gardens, while others built them for use in public parks.
Celia, a Tillicoultry resident, said: “We both had a fantastic afternoon and enjoyed meeting so many lovely people”.
The group plans to install 40 nest boxes across Tillicoultry in the coming weeks, with the first already in place and awaiting its first Sparrow residents.
Sarah from TWiG said: “Putting up a nest box in your garden is a great thing to do.
“Many of the places that birds would usually nest, like holes in trees, are disappearing as we tidy up our gardens.
“And birds really need our help.
“According to the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) there’s been a gradual drop in garden bird numbers.
“Even ones I used to think were common like House sparrows and Blue tits.”

The nest box kits were made by the Wee County Men’s Shed and the project was supported by funding from Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton and Devonside Community Council, as well as FELScotland.
TWiG has more community events planned for the year, including planting schemes to support wildlife.
A spokesman for the group said: “Look out for lots more happening over the next year.
“You can get involved as we plant flowers for pollinators, spring bulbs and small fruit trees in gardens and greenspace all around Tillicoultry.”
The group can be contacted via Facebook or by emailing tillywildlifegroup@gmail.com.
Membership is free and open to anyone living in Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton, or Devonside, and members receive early notice of upcoming events.
