Work has begun on a memorial garden at Haut du Mont the site of the explosion that killed 10 people.
The Government of Jersey said the families of those who died in December 2022 have played a central role in shaping the design on the south side of Haut du Mont, now known as Vue du Port, where the flats once stood.
Features reflect the people they lost, including favourite flowers, quiet seating areas, winding paths and a small space for children.
Andium Homes – a States-owned, but independent company that is responsible for more than 4,900 properties, gave the site to the government so it could be used as a place of remembrance.
Demolition and groundwork will follow in the next few weeks as crews prepare the ground for the full build, said the government.
The project is expected to take about seven months, with planting due in the autumn as the weather becomes suitable for setting new trees and flowers.
The aim is to open the garden in December, in time for the fourth anniversary of the blast.
Officials said the memorial structure itself is due to come later and they would work with bereaved families to decide when they are ready to begin that part of the process.
