Initial plans for a nine-home estate on the site of an old garden centre look set to be approved. Ivan Simkin has applied for ‘permission in principle’ for the properties at Grove Manor – the site of Greenacres Plant Nursery, off Liverpool Road West, in Church Lawton – from Cheshire East Council.

But Church Lawton Parish Council has objected on the grounds of inappropriate development in the Green Belt, loss of openness, unsafe access, insufficient room for nine houses with adequate parking, and the loss of employment land. Ten residents have also objected with gripes including the lack of local infrastructure, highways safety, parking and access, and the loss of light and privacy.

The council’s southern planning committee will consider the application at a meeting on Wednesday 4 February.

The council planning report states: “Development of nine houses would make a small contribution to meeting the council’s housing need.”
