An award-winning garden near Colchester has revealed its programme of one-day courses and workshops throughout the year.

Green Island Gardens in Ardleigh was the overall winner of the RHS Partner Garden of the Year 2024, with 20 acres of gardens and woodland.

The gardens has announced its first event of the year with an ‘Introduction To Garden Design’ workshop taking place on Wednesday February 18 and Thursday September 24.

This is an intensive guide to designing your own garden from start to finish which includes the site survey, measuring up, the design process itself, drawing up plans, hard landscaping, and planting design.

The event, with lunch included, is aimed for those thinking about pursuing garden design as a career and is suitable for all levels of experience.

On Wednesday March 11, there is the ‘Planting for All Year Colour’ event which is a one-day course where people can learn planting design and which plants to choose.

This event is suitable for all levels of experience, with lunch included as well as free entry to the gardens.

On Wednesday October 14 there is the ‘Planting for Autumn Colour’ course which helps gardeners plant their garden, so it looks full of colour from late summer through the autumn.

All courses start at 10.45am with a hot drink and finish at 4pm, with lunch being a one-hour break during which people can explore the gardens.

The ‘Propagation Workshop’, announced for Wednesday September 16 from 11am to 1pm, is not suitable for people with limited mobility.

Finally, there is the six-week garden design course, which runs for six Wednesdays from 10.30am to 12.30am commencing on March 18, excluding April 29.

This course is ideal for those who have a keen interest in gardening and want to improve their own gardens without the time and expense of employing a professional garden designer.

The cost of the six-week garden design course is £375, one-day courses cost £80, and one-day workshops cost £30.
