View of NJ garden in July. Made some straight beds (left) but personally prefer the wild look with winding paths and annuals planted among perennials. How are most in-ground gardeners gardening?

I prefer a more wild/natural vibe but as long as someone is gardening I’m cool with whatever

Wild, but with a hint of organized to define veg garden

I love naturalistic plantings! Your garden makes me happy.

Organized for the edibles (just makes maintenance easy and cuts down on pest/disease problems).

Wild for everything else like natives.

I also have space now floor a large garden and the vision is for a wild boarder and perimeter with an organized centre… for at least one of the garden beds.

Mostly organized. Yours is beautiful and very well done.

In a smaller space like mine I prefer more organized

A combo of both, I find it easier to integrate beneficial insects and plants for one another.

Organized at first, wild in the end.

Organized chaos. I note down where everything goes, and things go where they fit, but … things go where they fit.

Organized chaos is what I like to go for. A good balance of planned and organized with plenty of natural randomness in there. I also get random things sprouting from my compost every year and I usually just let them go if it’s something I don’t mind having around. Too organized and planned looks nice but unnatural and too natural can look way too chaotic. Gotta find that sweet spot.

What do I prefer? Lol thats irrelevant. This year I will mulch alot more, space plants further and prune. Your garden looks great!

Wild… Never organized a lot. Seeds come up where they fall, and that’s wonderful.

Man I wish I had that much room to garden

I would love to be organized (grew up watching my grandad gardening with all these perfect straight rows of crops) but I only seem to create chaos.

Organized for food and wild for flowers

I can’t afford an organized, clean garden. I ended up hand tilling rectangles into my yard, removing as many of the huge rocks as I could, then amending the soil with compost. I planted seeds and transplants directly into the ground and mulched with pine straw. I tied the ones that needed it to some T posts we already had here, but eventually had to stack the T posts and cable tie them together to keep up with the height of my tomatoes. Ended up successfully growing lots of tomatoes, blackberries, tomatillos, and basil. Had moderate success with bell peppers and eggplant. Had zero success with pumpkins (they all got killed by vine borers). I also had a large variety of herbs I was growing in cheap plastic pots, which mostly did fine until the frost killed all of them except the sage and rosemary. I tried growing strawberries in a cheap, waterproof grow bag I got at Aldi. Half of them got eaten by deer, and the other half died of rot because the soil never dried in that pot. It had lots of holes, but that plastic tarp like material was very non-porous. Oh, and I grew a little fig tree I bought on clearance at Walmart in another huge cheap Aldi pot that looks like a half barrel. I got a few figs off it in the first year. I just hope she survives the winter.

Mine always start out organized and then it starts growing outside the boxes and it looks pretty wild. Not complaining. I love it when it gets wild.

I’m growing on the wild side. I can’t seem to keep it organized so I just plant randomly. Where I plant it isn’t as important as how I plant. I plant low to conserve water and maximize shading for plants that need cooler spots. I’m in a dry climate.

Organized is not just for aesthetic purposes it maximizes air flow to the plants which in turn increases fruiting.
