How do you guys make your soil for monstera? I have a monstera that I’ve been using the miracle grow soil for and it’s been fine but just found a few tiny mushy roots. I just repotted in a pot that’s 2 inches bigger. I’m a college student on a budget.

I make my own mix with potting soil, coco, and orchid bark and perlite mixed so that it is chunky mix to allow air for the roots. I just now started adding just a thin layer of orchid bark to the bottom of my planters and the mix I made on top to allow the plant to drain properly…I hope this helps if you can’t afford all of them it is a little pricey maybe go for the orchid bark mixed with potting soil mix the two or the coco hair mix and potting soil.

I am also a college student on a budget. What I’ve done is bought coco coir bricks. It’s a brick of dry coco coir that you need to soak in water. It typically is cheaper than bagged soil when using a lot of it, like in the case of your monstera. To that coco coir, just add orchid bark and perlite. A good mix for monstera is 1 part perlite 1 part orchid bark and 1 part coco coir. This mix will give you something decently well draining and chunky, on a budget. Also bonus tip, buy extra chunky perlite from a local hydroponics store near you, they typically sell huge bags of it for really great prices, better than Amazon IMO. Lmk if you have any questions, good luck that’s a great looking monstera!!!
all good advice here. make sure to trim rotted roots with sterilized tools. (:
I use a mineral mix. Zeolite, pumice, lava and terramol. No soil. It does wonders with the roots and it’s basically impossible to overwater with that stuff because excess water just drains away. Or even pure perlite or zeolite works.
