The team behind a Manchester-born cult burger brand have confirmed they’ll be opening their first city centre dine-in restaurant this February. Burgerism is set to open on Piccadilly Gardens in less than two weeks time.
The Greater Manchester takeaway business, which started by serving burgers out of a hole in the wall in Salford confirmed to the M.E.N. that they’ll be opening for soft launch on Wednesday, 11 February in the unit next to Barburrito.
A major milestone for the brand, it follows years of growing a loyal customer base through its delivery and takeaway model. Up until now it has ran sites in Salford, Denton, Gatley and a concession at Freight Island at Depot Mayfield.

The burger connoisseurs will be keeping their menus the same as other branches, bringing smashed burgers, wings, fries and homemade dips to Piccadilly Gardens. Between February 11 and 15, they’ll also be offering 30% for those that order inside.
Burgerism was founded by Mark Murphy in 2018 in Salford, Greater Manchester. Since its establishment its won numerous awards including the honour of being named one of Britain’s best burger spots.

“It’s a unit that we’ve been working on for a while, at least a year, and we’ve spent at six months on the store fit out,” Mark told the Manchester Evening News.
“We’re really paying attention to all the details, and it’s a pretty big step for Burgerism to be opening a city centre spot and offering dine-in. It’s really exciting to work on it, it’s a very different, a much bigger build, and customers will really feel the brand.
“It’ll be eight years trading in March, and we’ve had a great time smashing patties behind the scenes, so being able to come into a more prominent setting is unusual but feels right for us now.”

Mark says there was a demand for a restaurant concept following the brand’s delivery and takeaway model in Manchester too. “More and more we see people coming to Manchester that have heard and may message and ask where they can order, and if they’re staying in a hotel they may not want to order in and come out instead.
“There’s also a level of demand in the existing stores and a real demand in the city centre. Three years ago I don’t think it was the direction, or that location for us, but now the timing feels right and the brand has grown up. The fans are almost asking for it to be in the city.
“We still have total confidence in delivery model, it’s still the direction of travel for us, and suburban takeaways are doing really well, but this is almost less of pivot, more of a compliment. We feel we’ve built a really compelling brand and offer, a lot of the signs are saying that we’re good at what we do, we love competing in the suburban settings, but why not be in that more competitive market.

“There’s such a tangible level of demand, it just makes sense. The foundations are super solid and the team around me is excellent, I have total confidence in us to do this.”
Burgerism’s burgers include the ‘Cheesed’ encompassing two smashed patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion and Burgerism’s special sauce. The menu also features the ‘Baconed’, ‘Double Beefed’, chicken burgers, wings and plant-based options alongside sides such as skin-on-fries.
“The menu will be the exact same and we’re proud of it, it’s nice to go somewhere and see familiarity rather than figuring the menu out. It’s always been a lean menu, classic smash burgers. Chicken sandwich, wings, and sauces. The thing we anticipate doing in the future is milkshakes, that’ll probably land in the summer.”
Burgerism at Piccadilly Gardens opens on 11 February. Opening times are to be determined but an 11am until 11pm will be trialed. There will be 30% off for the soft launch, and more deals on offers via the Burgerism newsletter and social media channels.
