We got termites 😭 but all sorted now. The pest guys have applied a chemical barrier around the house. There are a bunch of garden beds around our house, one which provided an entry point for the termites through our weep hole due to the huge bird of paradise growing up against the wall (see pic). All removed now. But my question is, are these garden beds destined to be barren? Are there any plants i can put in that will a). Deter termites and b). Not disturb the chemical barrier in the soil?

  1. Unless there was buried wood there, chances are they were soil termites and were never a serious risk to your house.

Termite resistant garden would just be removing large chunks of deadwood like tree stumps.

Same. Yes, i was told to be careful not to disturb or add soil to the barrier- 20cm around the house, though mine was trenched around the foundations by the pest company. I made sure the surrounding land was sloped away, to stop surface water going towards the house. I remove debris, leaves etc. regularly and just have a look around foundations every now and then. I have added some handfulls of gravel in spots that have sunk down a bit next to the foundation, and added some decorative rocks beyond the barrier. I’ve also improved drainage by fixing downpipes and I moved any existing plants further from the house.
I don’t think there are plants that repel termites as such, its more about keeping it clear and preventing moisture.

Don’t plant against your building would be number 1?
