EUGENE, Ore. — It’s the 12th Annual Grilled Cheese Experience kickoff today at the GrassRoots Garden (1465 Coburg Rd.) in Eugene.

This year, 53 restaurants are in on Food for Lane County’s mission to feed those in need.

Those restaurants are selling their twist on a grilled cheese sandwich and donating $2 from every sandwich to FFLC.

Pick up your passport today at the kickoff event and say hello to Rapid the Dog from the Springfield Drifters and take a picture with Cheesy Royalty to get your first stamp in your passport.

Collecting stamps adds up to prizes even a prize from your first stamp from the Drifters.

Two food carts, the Corn Dog Company and Smok’N Gingers BBQ, are on site.

Sandwich purchases from the trucks will earn you passport stickers.

“A lot of people are not able to make sure they have proper food on the table. Food for Lane County tries to help everybody that needs food. The money that is raised for this event helps go towards that. Every dollar helps us provide two meals out in the community,” said Dawn Marie Woodward, events coordinator Food for Lane County.

Woodward says FFLC hopes to raise $30,000 this year.

The kickoff runs until 2 p.m.
