Quinte Conservation and County partner for tree planting

Prince Edward County is joining with Quinte Conservation to apply for tree-planting funds.

During Thursday’s council meeting, Prince Edward County Council heard a deputation from Lindsay Nash, Outreach and Stewardship Coordinator for Quinte conservation, regarding an opportunity to get grant money for tree-planting programs.

Quinte Conservation is looking to apply to the “Green Municipal Fund: Growing Canada’s Community Canopies” program, but to make an application they need the support of local council.

The funding opportunity would cover 50% of the costs for long-term forestry projects, such as forest restoration, or planting trees along roads or in parks.

After the deputation, Councillor Kate MacNaughton put forward a motion to approve a partnership with Quinte Conservation, have Mayor Ferguson write a letter of support to accompany the application, and have municipal staff work with Quinte Conservation to finalize the partnership.

That motion was approved.
