Gabriel Tallent was born in New Mexico and raised by two mothers. His first novel, My Absolute Darling, was shortlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize, the Dublin Literary Award, and debut of the year at the British Book Awards. His new novel, Crux, is published this week by Fig Tree.

The books on your bedside table? Two copies of Murder on the Orient Express – my wife Hattie and I are reading it together.
